Community Task Force Action Request
Dear
Friends of Justice: This is a short letter requesting your support for
Tony Ford who is on TDC Death Row. A few of us have formed the Committee
to free Tony Egbuna Ford to try to prevent this young man from being
killed March 14th of this year. At this moment we are waiting to hear the
results of pertinent DNA testing for Tony Ford. We believe Tony Ford to be
wrongfully convicted due to faulty eyewitness identification. We are also
supporting the on-going, non-violent protest led inside the prison by
death row inmates under their organization titled DRIVE.
We need
your help at least until March to assist this committee in two main tasks.
The tasks will be to get the word out about Tony Ford and to alert people
about the conditions on the Polunsky Unit, along with calling the number
below to question those conditions weekly.
Right now
we need an on-going phone tree that would put needed pressure on the TDC
administration’s Ombudsman, support us in tabling this information at
various events, E-mailing, support possible press conference or
demonstrations and keep your organization aware of what is happening
inside TDC Death Row and the Tony Ford case through your own creative
ways. We are asking you and your organization to adopt Tony Ford and our
Committee until March.
The
situation of abuse and living conditions on death row are below human
dignity and standards. The response to the non-violent prisoner’s
protesting has been repressive and oppressive. Please read and study the
DRIVE website (www.drivemovement.org) then call Kathy Cleere, TDCJ
Ombudsman Coordinator at 936-437-8035 and ask her what is being done to
protect prisoners' rights at the Polunsky Unit. Please walk this road with
